About Chitabe Camp

Chitabe Camp is a luxurious eight-roomed, tented camp built on one of the most beautiful islands in the Okavango Delta. It is situated in a private area in the south east of the Okavango Delta, which borders the Moremi Game Reserve. The Chitabe area is a combination of open floodplains, wooded islands and lagoons - which sets the scene for a wide variety of wildlife.
Accommodation consists of eight spacious East African style tents built on elevated wooden decks, beneath a lush tree canopy. Each tented room has en-suite facilities with flush toilets and both outdoor and indoor showers. Hot showers are guaranteed anytime of day or night. The thatched dining area, lounge and pub are also raised on decks overlooking the surrounding flood plains.
A pool allows guests to cool off from the heat of the day. Activities consist of day and night game drives in open 4x4 vehicles accompanied by an experienced guide. Nature walks, tailor made to suit the guests, are also offered. Game viewing is good, and includes Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Reedbuck, Giraffe, Impala, Zebra, Buffalo and Hippo. Depending on the time of year, Wild Dogs are also resident in the area. Night drives can be very rewarding, with good sightings of the rarer nocturnal animals.
One of the biggest assets Chitabe has to offer is its friendly and outstanding staff. Most of the staff working at Chitabe have been there since its inception seven years ago and it is this pride and loyalty that gives Chitabe its amazing atmosphere. It is without a doubt the "Soul of the Delta" and we would like to invite you to experience our little oasis.
Access into the Chitabe area is only by aircraft.

The Reserve: NG 31 - Chitabe Concession

The Chitabe Concession is 28,000 hectares of pristine Okavango wilderness. It borders the well known Moremi Game Reserve and is nestled between two main river systems, the Gomoti to east and the Santantadibe to the west. What makes Chitabe unique to some of the other areas in the Okavango Delta is that it contains such a variety of habitats within close proximity. A finger of perennial swamps extends into the Chitabe reserve, which is inundated by water throughout the year. The area is also dominated by seasonally flooded areas which transform 56% of the concession from dry floodplains into a lush oasis, when the annual flood waters meander through. This variety of habitat, which ranges from the classic Okavango scenery with Illala Palms dotting the landscape, to open savannahs and acacia woodlands, gives rise to a surprising diversity of species, which allows Chitabe to offer guests a wide variety of game viewing and birding experiences.
Chitabe is well known for its predator concentrations of cheetah, lion, leopard and wild dog and because we can offer night-drives, seeing the elusive nocturnal animals such as aardvark and pangolin is a treat.
The Chitabe camps can offer guests not only a wonderful game viewing experience in well-equipped game drive vehicles, but we encourage walking as well. Our guides are all trained and accredited to take walks and our guests can put their feet on the ground and get a real feel for Africa. Chitabe also has two elevated hides located in the reserve, where guests can experience a "sleep-out" under the stars in full comfort and safety.
