About Welgevonden Game Reserve
The Welgevonden Game Reserve is a true piece of Wilderness situated in the heart of the Waterberg, just north of Johannesburg. It boasts 35 000 hectares of unspoilt, malaria free bushveld and is home to over 50 different mammals including the Big Five.
The reserve is home to one of the largest populations of white rhino on a private reserve anywhere in Africa and boasts over 250 bird species, including rare blue cranes. There are unusual species as well, such as brown hyena, aardwolf and aardvark.
The grassy plains thrive with antelope and cheetah, lion and leopard are always close by. The area will soon expand to approx 100,000 hectares with game fences being removed between Marakele National Park and Welgevonden. It's high altitude, temperate climate and the fact that it is malaria free makes it worth a visit all year round. The Welgevonden is certainly one of the finest places to watch wildlife and is a true piece of exquisite African Wilderness.
