About The Lodge & The Reserve

Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Lodge is set on the banks of the largest perennial lake in the exclusive 63,000 hectare Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve which forms part of the Greater Kruger Park. Originally a private retreat of the Brink family, Chitwa Chitwa was transformed by Charl into an oasis of conservation and harmony. His dedicated approach and wise land management are aimed at the handing of an uncontaminated African paradise to the future generations. In 1991 Charl and Maria Brink created Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Lodge, today a jewel of South African hospitality and an emblem of the savannas most authentic and refined luxury.

This reserve shares 50km of unfenced boundary with Kruger National Park and animals are at liberty to go wherever they wish - but they tend to stay right where they are! This is because the Sand River and Sabi River supply much needed water in the dry season and create an eco-system with one of the highest and most bio-diverse wildlife populations in Southern Africa.

This is the reason why it is quite possible to see the 'Big Five' (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, buffalo and elephant) as well as numerous other animals and birds in a couple of days, or even a couple of hours in Sabi Sand.

Map & Directions

The road transfer from Johannesburg to Chitwa Chitwa takes ap­proximately 6 hours. The lodge is situated in the northern area of the Sabi Sand and access if via Gowrie Gate, near the Orpen Gate of the Kruger Na­tional Park. Chitwa Chitwa is a scenic three-hour drive from Nelspruit.

-It is approximately 500kms from Johannesburg to the lodge with a 25 kms stretch on gravel road closer to the lodge
-From Acornhoek onwards there are signs: “Sabi Sand” follow these signs
-Please do not get out of your vehicle once in the reserve
-Once inside the Sabi Sand, look out for the “FOLLOW THE HERD” signage which will lead you all the way to Chitwa Chitwa.
