About Leobo Private Reserve
ABOUT LEOBO MAIN LODGE
Leobo Lodge, located at the top of an escarpment, is a safari lodge that can sleep up to 18 people in beautiful chalets overlooking the Palala Valley. Rooms that can accommodate children are available and the lodge is fully staffed. Meals can be enjoyed inside, on the enormous deck complete with sunken seating fire-pit, or in the Boma, where everybody eats around a fire under the stars. There are eight cottages built into the side of the escarpment. All are equipped with en-suite bathrooms with doors that open onto a private deck – providing views that stretch to the horizon. The Lodge has a really comfortable rustic feel, it has two open fireplaces and plenty of space for relaxing inside, on two levels. The large dining table can seat fourteen people easily — there is also an outside dining table with a large parasol where you can have any meal with wonderful views over the bush. A covered verandah with large sofas, coupled with the huge deck, provides a number of fantastic places where you can sunbathe or relax in the evening. The Lodge has an enourmous deck manufactured from antique railway sleepers. With commanding views of the Palala Valley and a nearby water hole, you can relax with a drink while watching the sun go down or take in the amazing night skies from the lodge’s sunken firepit. The swimming pool has been carved into the side of a hill and sits perched high – with amazing views of Palala Valley. If you feel like relaxing for the day it is an amazing spot. If you need to escape the sun, there is also a thatched cabana. The lodge’s chef will customise a menu to suit any dietary requirements. Meals can be served on the deck or, if you prefer, around the nightly fire in the Boma. It is also possible to eat at a number of special spots in the bush.
ABOUT LEOBO OBSERVATORY LODGE
The Observatory at Leobo, designed by award-winning architects Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, is a masterpiece, ideal for couples or for families. This remarkable house is state-of-the-art, with breath-taking views and the ultimate in luxury. Serviced by a butler, maid and chef, it also has a heated infinity pool, and a jacuzzi on the roof. There is an automated Observatory that is perfect for stargazing. All bedrooms and bathrooms are luxurious spaces. Both main bathrooms have baths and showers and the master bedroom features an outdoor shower. Towels, slippers and robes are provided and all electrical outlets cater for appliances from the UK, South Africa and Europe. Each bedroom has a private safe. The heated infinity pool provides stunning views of the valley. You can relax in comfortable sun beds and enjoy the best Africa has to offer. The deck has a covered veranda where guests can unwind (or doze) in front of an open fire in the evenings. Whether you’re dining under the chandelier or relaxing in front of the fire, this open space is perfect for entertaining and relaxing. The mezzanine level above is ideal for children who want to watch a movie before bed or for when you’re catching up on news. A flight of stairs will take you to the sun deck. With its comfortable sofas, it is a wonderful place to enjoy a drink. On cooler evenings, you can relax in the jacuzzi and take in the panoramic views of the Palala Valley. The Dome houses a fully automated 20-inch telescope. Due to the reserve’s remote location, the sky is extraordinarily clear. A local astronomer can be booked for starlit safaris or, for the more experienced user, we have a selection of state-of-the-art astrophotography equipment for deep sky imaging. At the Observatory you have access to a private chef who will customise a menu based on your preferences, using the freshest local produce available. Meals can be enjoyed inside, outside or at one of several beautiful locations in the bush.
About Waterberg Region
Leobo Private Reserve, we like to do things a little differently. Like all African safari lodges, you can stay in unparalleled luxury, enjoy delicious food and take in a beautiful part of Africa. That goes without saying. But what we are really about is offering you a completely unique experience. The reserve is rented on an exclusive basis only. You don’t share it with any other guests; it’s your playground for the duration of your stay. We don’t offer timetabled game drives, rigid programs or meals at set times. Of course you can go on game drives whenever you like, day or night – whenever suits you. But Leobo Reserve is for people who want a bit more out of life than a bunch of Kodak shots of the Big Five. You can do anything if you like. Just ask. We’ll give you the opportunity to enjoy a life experience that you’ll be talking about for years to come. You don’t need to be mad or crazy or an adrenalin junkie. Just an individual, a couple, or a bunch of friends who truly believe in enjoying themselves.
The Waterberg is a diverse environment, offering an abundance of wildlife. Rich in archaeological history and Bushman paintings, it is considered to be one of the geological wonders of the world.
The Waterberg offers a mosaic of exceptional scenic landscape, a fascinating cultural heritage, an abundance of wildlife species and many nature-based tourism opportunities. Vaalwater is the central village of the Waterberg area, the heart of the Bushveld region. The Waterberg has been described as South Africa’s best keep secret. Its rugged beauty, together with its diversity in plant and animal life, has led to the development of several exciting eco-tourism projects such as the biosphere reserve, the Waterberg Nature Conservancy – the amalgamation of conservation areas in order to protect more than 150 000 hectares of the Waterberg-habitat.
The Waterberg-range, incorporating many rivers, streams and swamps, stretches for 150 kilometres in a long arc from Thabazimbi in the West, Nylstroom in the centre to Potgietersrus in the east. Apart from the spectacular scenery of the mountains themselves, there are many game sanctuaries, nature reserves and farms. The 75 mammal species include big game such as elephant, lion, white and black rhino, hippo, leopard and buffalo. African python and the Nile crocodile are also resident, and it is a birdwatchers’ paradise with more than 300 bird species.
