About &Beyond Phinda Zuka Lodge
Surrounded by densely wooded hills and lush valleys, Phinda Zuka Lodge is situated in the western region of Phinda where, in what was a triumph for CC Africa’s conservation endeavours, fences were dropped after protracted negotiations with neighbours, increasing the Reserve by 3 500 hectares (8 650 acres).
Meaning sixpence in Zulu, Zuka Lodge offers guests a new experience of Phinda’s pristine wilderness. The Lodge’s four intimate cottages are set 15 metres (50 feet) apart, featuring verandas overlooking a busy waterhole where a diversity of wildlife is regularly seen. Sitting areas feature built-in sofas which double as beds for parents travelling with children 5 years and younger. Bedrooms have air-conditioning and fans and are en suite, with a circular stone bath chamber, double showers, separate w.c and twin hand basins.
The exclusive-use Phinda Zuka Lodge is perfect for families or groups of up to eight people. Guest areas include an interactive cafe-style kitchen, indoor sitting and dining areas, an intimate library with Internet access and a swimming pool with extended wooden decking overlooking the waterhole. Comfortable cushions and suspended wicker chairs on the veranda allow for contemplation of the beautiful surroundings.
Characterised by hues of blue and stone, emphasising shape and texture, the overall effect of the Lodge is that of cool, coastal bush style – the sophistication of simplicity.
SAFARIS, ADVENTURES AND ACTIVITIES AT PHINDA
Tailormake your day by discussing your safari activities with your private ranger. Activities include morning and afternoon/evening game-drives in your private 4×4 safari vehicle, bush walks, riverboat cruises and canoe trips along the Mzinene River, as well as bush sundowners and dinners on the Reserve. Phinda also offers a variety of optional adventure activities, such as scuba diving and deep-sea fishing, and a range of Specialist Safaris.
About Phinda Private Game Reserve
This private game reserve was formed about 10 years ago along the borders of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park – one of Africa’s most ecologically diverse regions. Farmland was restored back to its natural habitats and stocked with big game animals. Seven different eco systems exist on the reserve including forest and coastal, and its variety renders it perfect for an escape of luxury and adventure. Conservation Corporation Africa has built four private lodges in the reserve, each in its own environment with differing qualities. This venture not only supports animals but also improves employment, education and health facilities in the local communities. You can catch a glimpse of Zulu life, past and present by visiting a traditional cultural village aligned to the Phinda reserve.
ANIMALS AND ACTIVITIES
In addition to vehicle game viewing , you can also go rhino tracking on foot in this reserve. There is also the opportunity to watch turtles laying their eggs on a remote beach and to dive amongst them on the coral reefs. Hippos inhabit the ancient waterways. Please note that we will not canoe past hippos as it is too dangerous and we will avoid them at all costs.
