- Proof of SADC residency may be required at the time of booking or upon check-in at the lodge.
- Surcharges and a minimum 3 night stay may apply on rates over peak holiday periods and long weekends.
- Unless otherwise stated, all rates listed are based on a minimum 2 night stay. Surcharges may apply for a 1 night booking.

About Garonga Safari Camp
Safari Camp
Garonga Safari Camp is an exclusive camp in the 27,000 hectare greater Makalali Conservancy situated west of the Kruger National Park. This unassuming sanctuary promises an intimate wildlife encounter in an unhurried environment where you can unwind, sleep deeply and be yourself.
The main lodge area consists of a swimming pool with an array of comfortable loungers where our guests can cool off, soak up the sun, relax, or enjoy a barbeque. Inside, the main lodge boasts air-conditioned comfort and features a spacious dining area, lounge, seating area, fireplace and a self-service bar.
The luxury tents are situated overlooking a dry riverbed – each with a wooden deck complete with hammock that commands spectacular views. The rooms are light, airy and spacious with large, draped beds. In addition to the indoor shower, there is an outdoor shower, providing the perfect link between the luxury of the suite and the allure of Mother Nature.
Little Garonga
The main lodge at Little Garonga boasts both an indoor and outdoor lounge area. The outdoor covered breakfast deck can comfortably dine a group while offering spectacular African views.
Little Garonga has three fully en-suite, thatched and air-conditioned suites, all situated around centralized indoor & outdoor lounge areas, a swimming pool and built-in braai area. Each suite has its own platform deck complete with a hammock. This lovely lodge is ideal for exclusive use, but can also be booked out independetly. It is run separately from Safari Camp, has its own host, chef, waiter, housekeeper, guide and vehicle.
Little Garonga’s Hambleden suite consists of a main bedroom (catering for 2 adults) and a closed off room that can accommodate 2 children, making it ideally suited for a couple or a small family. The rooms are fully air conditioned. An indoor and outdoor lounge are both covered and offers guests ample room to dine and relax. A large bathroom featuring a beautiful hand beaten copper bath tub is available with both an indoor and outdoor shower. The suite has its own swimming pool and raised deck, hammock and mini-bar.
The Chiltern and Buckingham suites are suitable for a couple sharing. Both suites are fully air-conditioned, have a covered deck area, hammock, lounge and bedroom. The bathrooms consists of a bath, basins and shower. A large outdoor shower is also available.

About Makalali Private Game Reserve
The Makalali Private Game Reserve, founded in 1994, consists of 27 000 hectares of Lowveld Acacia bush and open savanna grass land and all surrounding the lush river.
This reserve represents a conservation mission to expand South Africa’s green frontier by re-establishing the ancient wildlife migration routes that linked the famous Kruger Park in the east to the lush Drakensberg Mountains in the west. In the process lion, cheetah, leopard, elephant, and rhino have all been reintroduced to the wild, making Makalali home to over one thousand wild animals including all of Africa’s “Big Four “ (No free roaming Buffalo at present).

Getting There
Directions from Gauteng to Garonga Safari Camp
Option One
Take the N1 to Pietersburg. Just before Pietersburg take the R71 towards Tzaneen. Carry on until just past Haenertsburg, then turn right. Keeping on the R71 all the way until Tzaneen. Keep straight on the R71 past Tzaneen straight past Gravelotte – this is the R526 to Mica. From Gravelotte, measure 18 kilometers. On the right side of the road close to the dirt road entrance you will see “Zander Osmers Safaris”; 500 m after this you will see “Garonga Safari Camp” sign on the right hand side on the dirt road. Turn right and follow the arrows marked on a Black Sign with a bronze arrow. You will see the first one after about 3 Kms.
Option Two
From Johannesburg take the N4 past Witbank, turn off the N4 to Belfast . From Belfast go through Dullstroom towards Lydenburg. Through Lydenburg and through Orighstad. After going through the JG Strijdom Tunnel measure 10 km then turn left on the R36 towards Tzaneen. Travel 10 km on the R36 then turn right at the Phalaborwa sign – travel for about 25 km. Turn left at the “T” junction. Go past Mica village, just the other side of Mica, turn left towards Tzaneen. Measure 15 km from the turn off, Then you will see a Garonga Safari Camp sign on the left hand side of the road. There is also a “Warning Sign” (red and White Triangle) warning people of Animals crossing the road, right opposite the dirt road entrance. Turn left onto the dirt road Follow signs to the lodge.
