- 5/6 hour’s drive from Johannesburg.
- 20 min drive from Hoedspruit Airport to the Jejane Gate, further 45 min from the gate – not self-drive accessible.

About Nyala Safari Lodge
Set along the banks of the seasonal Mohlabetsi River, Nyala Safari Lodge is an intimate, boutique safari lodge blending laid-back luxury with uninterrupted bushveld serenity. With just five thatched rondavels accommodating a maximum of 10 guests, Nyala is a haven for those seeking privacy, luxurious comfort, and to be immersed in nature.
Shaded by ancient jackalberry and Boer-bean trees, the lodge’s main area features a wraparound viewing deck that follows the natural curve of the river, providing panoramic views of the wilderness beyond.
Each of Nyala’s five chalets is elegantly styled with earthy interiors, light wood finishes, and a calming palette inspired by the surrounding bush. Thoughtfully designed and beautifully curated, each room blends rustic charm with understated elegance.

About Balule Nature Reserve
Nyala Safari Lodge is located in the heart of the Greater Kruger ecosystem in South Africa, within the Balule Nature Reserve (part of the Mohlabetsi Conservancy) in Limpopo Province, near Hoedspruit.
Set along the banks of the seasonal Mohlabetsi River, the lodge is surrounded by classic African bushveld and forms part of an unfenced wildlife area that connects directly to the wider Kruger National Park region. This allows for free-roaming Big Five game and an authentic, immersive safari environment right on the lodge’s doorstep.

Getting There
Nyala Safari Lodge is located only 20 minutes from Eastgate International Airport (Hoedspruit Airport), which receives direct flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town daily. If self driving, the cars are parked in secure parking at the reserve’s main gate where a guide will meet you and transfer you to the lodge.
Please do not use GPS if self driving.
NB! Guest are to arrive at the below time for a scheduled camp transfer to the lodge. If arriving later or earlier please let us know so that we can arrange collection: 13:30
FROM OR TAMBO
We recommend driving via Dullstroom.
The road to Lydenburg is hazardous.
The GPS coordinates might take you via this route, but it is not recommended. The route should take you about 6 hours.
From JHB central, take the Nl to Pretoria then follow the N4 – Witbank (Emalaheni) sign.
From O.R. Tambo International Airport, take the R21 Boksburg road then the N12/N4 towards Emalaheni Witbank and Middelburg.
The N12 merges with the N4 from Pretoria. Continue on this main N4 route towards Nelspruit and Maputo. After going through Middelburg and past the Alzu off- ramp, take the next Belfast off-ramp (R33).
Drive into Belfast (GPS and google maps gets confused in this area so please ensure you head to Dullstroom by following the R540 – Dullstroom / Lydenburg Rd).
Once in Dullstroom, carry on straight and head towards Lydenburg. The road has a few potholes – be aware.
Drive through Lydenburg (Mashishing), and follow the R36 route to Ohrigstad.
Carry on through to the Abel Erasmus pass down the steep mountain. Pass through the tunnel and then drive approx. 60km into Hoedspruit.
You will pass citrus farms, Monsoon Cafe, game farms and farm stalls.
You will also cross the Blyde River.
Follow this road as it goes directly to Hoedspruit Town.
Drive straight through the town over 3 intersections, and just over a railway bridge you will get the R40 junction (left takes you to Phalaborwa).
Go straight across here and you will see the fire station on the right.
Drive for 800 meters until you reach a T Junction, where you should make a left turn.
Then almost immediately (100m), make a right turn onto a dirt road. Look for a green and white NY ALA sign.
The road will split, and you can take either path, as both lead to the Jejane gate.
Opt for the one on the right, where you will be welcomed by the Nyala guide to escort you to the lodge.
