The Little Karoo offers a unique safari setting characterised by arid landscapes and dramatic mountain backdrops. Conservation initiatives in the region have reintroduced wildlife, creating a distinctive safari experience different from traditional bushveld reserves.
The malaria-free Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is around a three-hour scenic drive from Cape Town in the heart of the Little Karoo, along Route 62 – the world’s longest wine route. At the foot of this towering Warmwaterberg Mountains, Sanbona boasts about their indigenous flora and fauna and rare examples of San rock art, some dating back more than 3, 500 years. More than a Big 5 wilderness reserve, Sanbona Wildlife Reserve is home to a variety of animals who call the Klein Karoo home. Some of these creatures are quite elusive and not always seen. At Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, we have three tranquil Relaxation Retreats for guests to enjoy in between the daily game drives and wilderness walks.
