Established in 1994 and located within the Waterberg Biosphere, Marakele is designed as a “place of sanctuary” for wildlife and biodiversity. Its standout feature is the dramatic mountainous terrain, which is very different from typical flat bushveld reserves. It is less commercial than Kruger, making it ideal for travellers looking for a more authentic, uncrowded safari, and is particularly renowned for one of the largest Cape vulture breeding colonies in the world.
The Marakele National Park in the heart of the Waterberg Mountains in the scenic Limpopo Province, South Africa, Malaria-free zone. Guests can see 4 of the Big Five, abundant birdlife and flora. Guests can enjoy game drives and walks whilst exploring majestic mountain landscapes, grass-clad hills and deep valleys. Marakele is also an excellent place to look for raptors, with many species using the updraft generated off the cliff faces of the Waterberg Mountains to ride thermals.
